Interesting Sector Facts:

Based on the Sport Sector Growth Plan in 2016 the sector employs 17,500 people, just under 500 hundred sector enterprises and generates £513 million GVA into the local economy.

Leicester and Leicestershire is a Premier Sporting Location with an extensive offer of events to watch and take part in alongside a conferencing and meeting room offer.

Earlier in 2019 a number significant sporting events all fell on the same weekend attracting an estimated 78,000 visitors, competitors and officials to the area.  Based on the tourism sector’s estimated ‘£35 day visitors spend’ this would have generated over £2.5 million into the local economy, in just one weekend.  Not just to sports businesses, but the daily spend would reach bars, restaurants, hotels, retail, transport and much more.   This figure is only an estimate but shares a snippet of tangible benefits to businesses in a wide variety of sectors able to benefit from the sporting identity of Leicester and Leicestershire.
